Clark Humane Society's Description:

"Hey, I'm Thor! I'm an 8 month old German Shepherd that wandered away from home and never went back. There may be a good reason for not going back as by looking at my face, you can tell that I had a muzzle on for a long period of time. The only reason the people at the shelter can figure out about why I would have a muzzle is that I bark. But, come on, I'm a dog and doing my job! It's really cruel to put something on me that is so tight that the hair is rubbed away from my face. As for my barking, don't let that deter you from adopting me. The shelter is lucky enough to have a dog trainer volunteering and he says that with leadership and excercise, that will be a thing of the past. In fact, big improvements have already been made. Stop in to meet me today! Applications can be filled out online or at the shelter!"

This is Caitlyn, a Staffordshire Terrier mix who was found on someone's doorstep with her muzzle tightly wrapped in black electrical tape. At the time these photo's were taken, Caitlyn was only a 15 month old pup. She managed to escape her abusive owner and ran straight into the hands of what would become her savior. After being treated at a local animal hospital, Caitlyn was placed with a foster to continue her long recovery over the next few months. The reason for why she was muzzled in such a horrific manner, simply for barking. Something so natural and easily trainable as that. Now the scars on her face will remain as a painful reminder of the cruelty this innocent creature endured, but her cheerful spirit shows she holds no grudges of her past treatment. The incredible ability that dogs have to live in the moment is what encourages many to keep pushing forward, even in the darkest of times. Luckily this spunky little pup made a full recovery! http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2016/06/caitlyn-the-dog-found-with-her-muzzle-taped-one-year-later/

Legal Abuse In The Form of a Muzzle

This item is called the "Quiet Dog Gentle Shush", it's a muzzle specially designed for dogs who bark. The intentions of this item are to silence a barking dog. Keep in mind, that barking is a natural behavior for dogs, whether alert, spooked, bored or playing. A tool that is called "gentle shush" is a big red flag that it's not gentle and NOT being used for the benefit of the dog, but rather the human. (The lazy, ignorant, selfish human that wants a dog just to have a dog. They will leave them out in the yard to alert when strangers come by to make the family feel safe, but not long later, that barking gets annoying. Instead of working with the dog, training them, playing with them, walking them, the simple solution is to muzzle them. This is meant to be a temporary  fix, but time goes by and the family forgets to take off the muzzle or they think it's not bad to leave it on the dog because the label itself says "GENTLE". This is what happens in the real world when manufacturers and supporters of these types of items tell you how great they are for you and your pet. The truth is, if this were really made to benefit the dog, they wouldn't be muzzled at all. Just look at these two dogs, do they look comfortable to you? Start critically thinking and question what you're being told. Don't just believe it because everyone else is doing it. Thinking like that gets dogs killed!
